Kari Dohn Decker, Interim Executive Director
Kari is a native Washingtonian who grew up boating as a young girl around the Puget Sound and skiing and hiking in the Cascades. She’s had a home on Vashon since 2005 and is now raising her teenage son on the island with her husband, John, and their two dogs. Kari brings 30-plus years as a senior leader and manager in the intersection of policy, law, nonprofits and social impact, with a focus on economic opportunity and equity. She’s served as a senior advisor to US Cabinet Members, US Senators, a Governor and also worked on many transitions - large and small, including two nonprofit CEO transitions. Most recently, she managed Corporate Responsibility in the Western US for a financial institution, focusing on more affordable housing, financial health, workforce development, and small business. Kari is excited to be part of Vashon Household’s mission to create affordable housing and greater economic opportunity on the beloved island she calls home.
