Our Work

IMPACT ON THE COMMUNITY

Celebrating 35 years of providing locally grown affordable housing to the Vashon community.

Since 1989, VHH has built single-family homes for home ownership, provided rental assistance, renovated old units, and constructed new apartments — all to create beautiful neighborhoods and a spectrum of housing opportunities. We have helped hundreds of Islanders continue to live and work in the community by providing affordable homes and apartments that preserve our environment and the integrity of our neighborhoods.

VHH also leases and manages a 3.5-acre plot near town to a farm cooperative. The lease on this land stipulates that the land will be used for agriculture purposes and remain affordable, allowing it to be a lasting, food-producing green space.

As a community-focused organization, Vashon HouseHold promotes economic and cultural diversity through affordable housing. We believe housing is a basic human right, and we work to provide housing opportunities to a wide variety of homeless and low-to-moderate income individuals and families in our beloved community of Vashon Island.

Today, VHH has 88 rental units for families, seniors, and disabled adults, and 38 single family homes in three communities that are sold at well below market rate and will remain so due to a cap on appreciation, keeping them affordable for generations to come.

VHH is continually looking at what is happening in the community and the local legislature to take advantage of funding and partnership opportunities to increase affordable housing on the island and provide ongoing support to our tenants and homeowners.

With a 40-unit housing project already in the works, VHH is excited to continue our mission of creating new and creative housing solutions for our neighbors.
