  • Anne Atwell, President

    Anne has lived on Vashon since 1998. She and her husband, Adam, raised three kids here thanks, in no small part, to the island’s tight-knit, innovative and compassionate community. There’s so much creative talent here that wouldn’t be possible without Vashon Household and other affordable housing advocates. After 30 years of working as a communications and fundraising professional, Anne now dedicates more time to her own art, as well as working with Vashon Household. She and Adam are both avid backpackers, skiers and travelers.

  • Kim Goforth, Vice President

    Kim settled on Vashon in 2001 with her family after attending the University of Washington and living in Seattle for 25 years. She is an Architect, as well as a VHH board member. Aside from architecture, she is passionate about water sports and enjoys rowing and sailing with her husband, Brian. Kim is honored to be able to assist VHH with developing affordable housing on the Island.

  • Karin Nelson, Secretary

    Karin was raised on Vashon and graduated from Vashon High in 1982. Her father was a long-time resident in the JG Commons apartments, and in 2022 she was able to purchase her home in Roseballen, VHH community land trust. Her family has a deep appreciation for VHH, and she is excited to join the board and find ways to give back. Karin is the owner of an island business, Becalm, where she works as an acupuncturist. In her spare time, she enjoys cooking, gardening, hiking, and kayaking around Vashon, and spending time with friends and family.

  • Glynis Delargy, Treasurer

    Glynis Delargy has lived on Vashon Island for more than 20 years. She is a former CPA with a long history of working with diverse clients across various industries. A native of New York, Glynis loves living on Vashon and believes that making affordable housing available is essential to preserving the heart and soul of our community.

  • Beth DeGroen

    I was born in the U.S. Naval Hospital in Oakland, California in 1947; my father was a Naval officer, recently returned from the Pacific Theater. We moved every two or three years when I was growing up. After I graduating University of Washington, I worked in Seattle at the Attorney General's Division of Consumer Protection. When I met my husband, John, we decided to move to Vashon. This was the summer of 1976, and we have both lived here since that time and been grateful that we are here, every day! We have a daughter, Sophia Stendahl, a son-in-law, Ty Stendahl and two granddaughters. I have been a real estate broker since 1993. I understand fully how important affordable housing is to the people who live here with me on this island!

  • Kari Dohn Decker

    Kari is a Vashon community member with deep experience in public policy, nonprofit leadership, and strategic partnerships. She most recently served as the Interim Executive Director of Vashon HouseHold after previously serving on the board. Kari brings decades of leadership in government, philanthropy, and corporate responsibility, having held senior positions in both state and federal government, including the U.S. Department of Commerce and the Office of the Governor of California. Earlier in her career, Kari worked in international trade law and advised U.S. Senators on economic and trade policy. Kari enjoys hiking, time with her family, and the natural beauty of Vashon and the Pacific Northwest.

  • Devon DeLapp

    Devon has been visiting his wife's family on Vashon since 2004 and settled here with his own family in 2020. He loves the tight-knit and engaged community of the island and feels fortunate to raise two children here. Devon believes the unique spirit of Vashon requires having affordable places to live on the island. A want to support the development of those places lead Devon to Vashon HouseHold and its vital mission. Devon is a visual designer and runs a web design firm based in Seattle. He enjoys Scouting with his kids, hiking, camping, and building small structures.

  • Jeff Good

    Jeff, an architect and watercolor artist/instructor joined the Vashon Household board in 2019. He and his wife Susan moved to Vashon in 2015, quickly feeling a kindred spirit of a sense of community, emphasis on the arts and of course the beautiful natural surroundings of this island. A desire to give back led to his involvement in VHH, with affordable housing arguably the most critical community challenge we have today. Jeff is a member of the Vashon Island Rowing Club and a signature member of the Northwest Watercolor Society.

  • Art Chippendale

    Art has lived on Vashon for more than 20 years with his wife, Tania, and they reside in the Sunflower Community Land Trust. Art is passionate about affordable housing and participates on the Vashon-Maury Community Council Affordable Housing Committee as well as on the board of Vashon HouseHold.

  • Bob Horsley

    Bob moved to Vashon from the southern US with his wife in 1988. Since living on Vashon, Bob has held his own landscape architectural private practice in Seattle and now on Vashon for 27 years. Bob’s interests outside family and profession include rowing, bicycling, natural history, and art. He started painting with watercolors in 2006 while traveling, and since then, he has continued to use painting as a visual journal for his travels.

  • Andrew Shuman

    Andrew has lived in Seattle for 30+ years and found constant joy by being a part-time resident of Vashon for half of that! His wife, Sara Dickerman, and two children have constantly enjoyed the vibrant community on the island, where people are always showing up to do good work. After a long tech career, he now spends his time as a coach and advisor. Andrew is energized to help Vashon continue to be a long-term home for people of all backgrounds and is honored to pitch in by being on the VHH Board.

  • David Van Holde

    David is Vashon Household’s former Treasurer, a position he held between 2012-2024. He sees the small contributions to VHH in its mission to provide affordable housing to the Vashon community as probably the most important work he does. He likes to do most anything with life partner Annie – including hiking and camping, exploring the world, exercise workouts, cooking, sailing, skiing, and house projects. David is Director of US Department of Energy’s Northwest Combined Heat and Power Technical Assistance Partnership and a Senior Energy Systems Engineer with the Washington State University Extension Energy Program, and he has worked in the energy industry for more than 28 years.

  • Tom Whelan-Miller

    Tom has lived on Vashon for decades, and he and his wife are original builders and owners at Roseballen. He spent much of his career as a glazier before working for several years in the maintenance and operations department of the Vashon Island School District.

  • Hilary Limont

    Hilary is a Northwest girl through and through - raised in Walla Walla, a UW graduate, and now raising her family on Vashon Island. Her background embodies the adventurous beauty and rebellious spirit that this area and its people offer. She has worked for the National Forest Service on timber crews and fought forest fires; studied oceanic food webs for NOAA and conducted surveys on the Bering Sea; and graduate studies at the UW to protect juvenile salmon in Northwest estuaries.
